Milestones: from vision to reality
InterVac was the vision of former VIDO Director Lorne Babiuk.
In March 2004, the Canada Foundation for Innovation made that vision a reality by contributing $19.2 million to the University of Saskatchewan to get the project off the ground. Since then, much has happened.
Here are just a few of InterVac's milestone achievements:
March, 2004
- U of S gives VIDO the green light to proceed on InterVac
- Canada Foundation for Innovation (CFI) contributes $19.2 million
November, 2004
- City of Saskatoon invests $250,000
March, 2005
- Federal Government invests $24 million
January, 2007
- Federal Government provides an $25 million
March 2007
- Government of Saskatchewan commits $24.7 million to InterVac
May, 2007
- New VIDO Director, responsible for InterVac named - Dr. Andrew Potter to succeed Dr. Lorne Babiuk as VIDO Director
May 9, 2007
- Community Liaison Committee launched for InterVac
June 2007
- Sod-Turning celebration launches InterVac
November, 2007
- Construction commences
December 2007
- U of S revises InterVac construction budget to $140-million making it the largest investment to date in vaccine research in Canada
