MSc Graduate Student Position: Development of a porcine model of tuberculosis infection and transmission

Project Description: 

We are seeking a motivated candidate to expand on our on-going development of a porcine model of human tuberculosis infection and aerosol transmission. This animal model will enable us to address outstanding questions in TB aerobiology, pulmonary immunology and pathogenesis, and provide a strategic platform to evaluate novel TB drugs and vaccines.

Financial Support: The project is fully funded and the candidate is guaranteed a stipend during their graduate education and training, but will be expected to apply for internal and/or external scholarships. Research Advisor: Jeffrey Chen PhD

Candidate Profile: 

Must hold an undergraduate degree either in Animal Science, Genetics, Immunology, Microbiology or related sciences. A working knowledge of immunological techniques would be an asset. Most importantly, the candidate must be 1) highly motivated and creative, 2) diligent, including a willingness to work on weekends, and 3) proficient in English (spoken and written). The candidate will be required to work under high-security biocontainment level-3 conditions after extensive training. As such, the candidate must be willing to undergo a full criminal and security background check prior to joining the lab.
