Research Veterinarian

The Vaccine and Infectious Disease Organization/International Vaccine Centre (VIDO/InterVac), a research institute at the University of Saskatchewan, Saskatoon, Canada is seeking a Research Veterinarian. The candidate will assist researchers to further understand the host’s immune response to exposure of infectious agents and study how this immune response may be enhanced by novel vaccines and vaccine strategies. The goal of the research is the improvement of human and animal health, animal production and welfare, food safety and the economic viability of the livestock industry.

Position Responsibilities:

• Development of novel animal models including surgical models in large and small animals.
• Coordination and scheduling of clinical and surgical trials to meet research goals.
• Supervision of clinical trials including clinical evaluations and monitoring of animals.
• Identification and collection of tissue sample for laboratory analyses.
• Assessment of gross pathology
• Development and assessment of novel strategies for vaccine delivery.
• Writing and reviewing of animal use protocols
• Costing of animal trials
• Basic animal husbandry work
• Working knowledge of computer
• Problem solving and supervision
• Liaise with external organizations and university committees.

Qualifications:

• DVM degree with the knowledge base of multiple species.
• The successful candidate must have surgical and clinical skills.
• Must be licensed to practice veterinary medicine in Saskatchewan
• Valid Saskatchewan Driver’s license.
• Able to work week-ends when required.

Salary: Salary is negotiable and will be commensurate with the applicants’ qualification and experience.
