Elsie Dawn Parsons

Clinical Veterinarian

Dr. Elsie Dawn Parsons graduated from the Western College of Veterinary Medicine (WCVM) and worked as a mixed animal practitioner before joining the VIDO-InterVac team in the spring of 2017. Prior to this, she completed her BSc from the University of British Columbia (UBC) in Land and Food Systems. Her passion for Laboratory Animal Medicine started during undergrad employment at the Animal Care Center at UBC where she worked with a variety of animals from rats and mice to pigs, sheep, cows and non-human primates. Other experiences that led her here include:

  • Dairy researcher: UBC Dairy research center, running and helping with projects associated heifer and cow health and comfort
  • Reproduction Specialist: Worked with a crew of traveling veterinarians throughout the southern states collecting and inseminating farmed deer
  • Research Technician: Canadian Cooperative Wildlife Health Center, tissue collection and disease surveillance of Chronic Wasting Disease in hunted deer, elk and moose
  • Animal Care Worker: Animal Care Unit WCVM, providing care for a variety of animal species used in teaching and research, throughout her veterinary training
