VIDO is expanding its research facilities in Saskatoon, including new animal research capacity and Canada's first non-government Containment Level 4 (CL4) facility.

We know people may have questions about what these changes mean for our community. This page is a place to find information about our expansion, learn about upcoming opportunities to hear from VIDO experts and ask us questions.

VIDO has called Saskatoon home for more than 50 years. While the infectious diseases we study and the vaccines and medicines we develop have national and global impacts, the work happens here in our community.

VIDO is meeting with neighbourhood, community and professional groups across Saskatoon to share information about our work, answer questions and hear what people want to know more about.

Community conversations will cover topics including:

• What is Containment Level 4 and why this capacity is needed
• How high-containment research is conducted safely
• Why animals are used in some infectious disease and vaccine research
• How vaccines and other medical countermeasures are developed
• VIDO's role in protecting human and animal health
• Canada's ability to prepare for and respond to emerging infectious disease threats
• How VIDO’s work helps agriculture and food security
• VIDO's contribution to Saskatoon and Saskatchewan

And, importantly, there is time to ask questions.

VIDO's Community Liaison Committee (CLC) is independent of VIDO and provides a connection between VIDO and the community on matters related to safety, security and public understanding.
